One of the things I enjoy most about being a DJ in London is the opportunities I get to travel. I also love the fact that I’m able to play to a variety of people which means that I’m continuously developing my understanding of music. Last Friday I played at a restaurant in East London for the first time. I’ll tell you all about it in ‘A London DJ’s diary – Neighbourhood, East Village
As is generally the case when performing at a venue for the first time, I had no idea whatsoever what to expect on the night. I was told to expect a mixture of people, both young and old, whilst I was also prepare to take song requests on the night. I started the night by playing some mellow background music. It wasn’t long however before I was asked to play a selection of music from Take That and Wham by a group of Teachers who were celebrating the retirement of one of their colleagues. I played classics such as ‘Relight My Fire‘ and ‘Club Tropicana’ which both got a great reaction.
As the night progressed, I started playing different genres of music. I was asked to play some 90’s House music by one group in attendance and so featured ‘Rhythm is a Dancer’ before moving on to play some Dancehall tracks. I’d say of the Dancehall songs I played ‘Party Animal’ by Charley Black got the best reaction. I also got a great response from the crowd when I played ‘Come Closer’ by Wiz Kid featuring Drake.
I’ll be at Neighborhood again this Friday between the hours of 21:00 and 00:30 and it’s certainly somewhere that I’d recommend for anyone looking for a great night out in East London. Compared to the Salt Lounge and Number 8, the other venues our DJ’s perform at on a Friday, it’s quite a relaxed vibe. It is however somewhere I’d definitely recommend for anyone who’s looking for great food, affordable drinks and of course quality musical.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this blog. If you have you can find more just like it here.
